Radon Gas Detection.

Radon is a radioactive gas produced naturally by the decay of uranium in the soil. It is invisible and odourless, even when highly concentrated. As this gas further decays, the resulting “radon daughters” attach themselves to dust or water particles in the air which, when inhaled, are deposited in the lungs. While the precise risk is still unknown, studies have shown that the incidence of lung cancer increases with greater exposure to radon.

Outdoors, radon escaping from the soil is so diluted that it does not usually present a serious health risk. But when it seeps in through cracks, joints and other openings and accumulates within a closed house, the concentration increases, along with the potential danger.

Property Inspection Ltd. has been testing homes for radon using the E-Perm system in the Ottawa area since 1990. The test takes about four days and involves sampling the air in a home. A report is generated showing the concentration levels found in the home. The cost is $75 for client pick-up, installation and return or $150 for them to provide staff to deliver, install and pick-up.
