Housing tips from CMHC: Asbestos
There are several places where asbestos can be found in older Canadian homes, one of the most common being asbestos siding. CMHC is often asked if asbestos containing material should be removed. Asbestos in a stable state or encapsulated is not a health threat. Disturbing asbestos containing materials (siding, insulation, floor tiles, etc.) leads to increased exposure. If you have a significant amount of deteriorated material that contains asbestos and you are considering its removal, you may wish to consult an asbestos removal expert prior to undertaking that work. For more information on asbestos CMHC has "About Your House" fact sheets available free of charge. Contact Chris Hoare or Anita Hoare at (613) 744-2000 or via e-mail at anita.chris@ottawahomes.net. |
